So the Holidays Are Over… Now What?

The pies are gone, the tree is dry, and several toys are already broken. Christmas is officially over. As happy as I am for the return to normalcy, I can’t help but be a little saddened at the idea that there will be no more twinkly lights or cinnamon candles for another year. I can live without carols for awhile but the rest I will miss.

Santa was kind… not too kind. You’ll see why.

I do have some warm memories of this year’s Christmas celebration. The children spent time with their Aunt Tiffany who traveled all the way from Atlanta to see them.
Aunt Tiff and The Lils enjoy daddy’s steak dinner.

On Christmas morning they woke up as their Mimi and Aunt Jeannie arrived and came in to find Santa had visited! They opened their presents and played with their family most of the morning (demanding batteries and yanking the toy back at the first sign of life).

Aunt Jeannie demonstrates the proper way to use a tunnel.

Later we headed up to visit with Grandpa and Nana’s family in San Jose. Addy and Pressy really loved getting to hang out with their extended family and cousins…and open MORE presents. Mom and Dad enjoyed getting a moment to breathe and laugh as one of Addy’s uncles whooshed by with her on his shoulders. She loves them. It was a day full of fun and games and laughter for everyone. It was what Christmas was meant to be.

Addy munches an empanada while Grandpa and Pressy look on.
Addy, Nana, and Uncle Ramon play a game.

The day after Christmas we headed over to Grandmas for a bit to open yet MORE presents… More food and more fun. This holiday keeps on giving.
Sean thanks Mama for his present.
Addy loves jewelry. Future suitors take note.

Finally we ended our celebration with Mimi and Uncle Tim in Novato at Aunt Jeannie’s house for an amazing meal. Her house was decorated beautifully. The best part for the babies? You don’t say! MORE presents! I am sad to report that I was ill and didn’t get to eat her DELICIOUS chicken marbella but I did have some the next day. I did, however, get to gnosh a bit on the appetizers she’d made. This stuff y’all. Oh my.

A tree to eat.
A tree to love/

So, I guess it’s safe to say Christmas is over and it was a smashing success. Now what? Addy’s birthday party. Like this week. For real. We’re keeping it low key and low stress and I’m actually pretty excited. Maybe next week I can breathe again… but I won’t bet on it 😉

Me and my big girl… and Teddy, of course.

The Journey Back to Me

Because packing the day before seems too eager.

I am packing up and getting ready to head to Long Beach to meet up with my sister from another mister, Katie. She moved down there a few months ago and we’ve only seen each other once since she left which sucks because she’s pretty much part of the family. She’s an amazing and incredibly driven person who keeps it %100 real and I really can’t wait to go let my hair down. We both could use a break.

I’m feeling somewhat anxious because I’ve never been away from the babies for more than a day. I know Sean can handle them and that they will have a blast with their Daddy while Mommy is gone. But I guess I am not sure how to be… who I’ll be… without them. Hopefully, I’ll figure it out if not just naturally, with the smooth, warming encouragement of a good cabernet.

I am looking forward to experiencing Southern California. I’ve only been once and it was a short trip so I am eager to do at least one “typically” Long Beach thing. I do know that I am headed for some medieval style fun and a super huge turkey leg. I also know that we (as in KiKi and me) will be learning more about empowering ourselves as women. I’m all about empowerment. And I’m a woman. I’m fairly certain there will be nail polish. I know we’ll eat too much and lay around patting our food babies. We’ll play with dogs. We’ll do the things I used to do before I didn’t get to do them as much anymore. For a few days I will not be solely Mama. I’m excited. I’m terrified.

I’ll be keeping you updated on what’s going on. Make sure to join me over on my Facebook Page so you can keep up with our antics while I’m down there. I can’t promise what we do will be completely clean, safe for work or children, or won’t offend your senses. I can promise that I will return much better for the trip. You’ll see.

11 Facts About Me!

1. I ate my baby bed. I don’t mean gnawed. I mean ate and chewed to a pulpy posted mess.

2. I love karaoke.

3. I watched Family Guy for distraction while I was in labor. It just never gets old.

4. I ride a motorcycle.

5. I have literally burned water (but my cooking has vastly improved since)

6. I really like belly dancing as a workout.

7. I once gained ten pounds due to an unnatural addiction to gas station burritos. I wouldn’t recommend it.

8. I love scary movies.

9. I also love popcorn and soda.

10. I had two weddings in 11 months.

11.  I give great advice… advice I never manage to follow. Lucky for you it’s entertaining aaaand still good advice.

1. Do you have a hobby? If so what is it?

My old hobby was sweepstaking, but that led me to blogging which has turned from a hobby to something I would like to take seriously. I’ve always enjoyed writing so blogging allows me that chance.

2.Do have a natural cold remedy you use when you/or your family are sick?

For my children, I recommend lots of liquids and lots of love. For myself, a hot toddy always does the trick.

3. Best place traveled to?

I’m a simple person with simple tastes. Having said that, I’d have to say my favorite place traveled to so far was Petit Jean, Arkansas. I loved camping there. There are many places like that here on the West Coast. I’ve just not gotten to them yet.

4.What is currently on your to do list for this upcoming month?

I am heading to a new butcher shop. Seems mundane but I’m stoked.
Celebrate Hubby and Mom’s birthdays! Yay!
Going to visit Grandpa and Nana in Carmel.
Preparing for X-mas!

5. Are you a coffee or tea drinker?

It really depends on my mood. 5 am and I want to get up, it’s coffee. 10 pm and I want to go to sleep, it’s tea.

6. Do you have a garden? If so what vegetable/fruit do you enjoy growing the most?

I don’t have a garden yet. I’ve wanted one badly for some time but I am very afraid of things that sting. I am going to conquer that fear. We have a raised bed ready to be constructed. I see tomatoes and bell peppers in our futures.

7. Have you ever gone ice skating?

I have… but I still prefer rollerblading. Technically the same thing but I don’t feel the same stress on my ankles.

8. Do you have a pet? If so what’s your pets name?

We had a chihuahua named Twinkie. He wasn’t exactly fond of the kids’ activity so he now lives with our Aunt who dotes on him more than we can right now. We miss him terribly but know he is getting the care and attention he deserves from family.

9. What do you enjoy most about blogging?

I enjoy being able to share what’s going on and what I know. I guess I’d like to think that my bad days or good days help someone else who may be going through the same thing.

10. What is your favorite meal to prepare?

I would have to say my chili. It’s really easy but a lot of love goes into it and it’s my family’s favorite.

11. Do you prefer warm weather or cold?

I prefer warm weather. I grew up in the south so it’s what I’m used to.
