Last weekend I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to attend a blogging conference here in Sacramento at the Double Tree Hotel. The SITS Girls and Mirassou Winery were gracious enough to host this event and offer us the best of education on blogging and wines. It was a fun night full of networking, wine swirling, and really re-evaluating my approach and goals in blogging.

Tiffany of The SITS Girls opened up the event. She was so inspiring as she delved into the very important details of running and promoting a blog successfully. She was brutally honest but incredibly nice. At certain points I was a little disappointed to learn that I had been doing some things the absolute WRONG way but Tiffany’s upbeat and optimistic presentation helped me to know that I wasn’t the only one who has made these mistakes… and they are fixable if I am willing to do the work.

After a dose of blogging know-how, we were treated to a delicious lesson in wine tasting and pairing from David Mirassou of Mirassou Wineries. Mirassou Winery has been providing quality wines for over 150 years. David regaled us with the story of his family history and the journey of their Pinot Noir grape cuttings to America as we noshed on a variety of cheeses and appetizers and swirled, sniffed, and sipped our perfectly paired wines. A light, crisp Chardonnay, their delicious Pinot Noir, Sunset Red (a blended red), and a perfectly sweet Moscato flowed generously and we talked easily as the wine took effect. I especially enjoyed getting to know Dawn from I Am a Mommy Nerd, Emilia from Half Crazy Mama, and Cori from Let’s Eat Grandpa.

Macaroni and cheese and spring rolls complimented the wines PERFECTLY. Nom!

To end the evening, Francesca of The SITS Girls gave us helpful tips on making social media work for promoting your blog. We touched on SEO, the best social media platforms, and what NOT to do when trying to extend your reach. I was relieved to know that I was pretty knowledgeable about these things but again, there were some lessons I desperately needed to learn. Thankfully, Francesca and Tiffany were there to teach me.

I cannot fully express how much I enjoyed this event. Getting to know fellow bloggers in the area and learning how to make the most of my own blog was an invaluable experience. Getting to know David Mirassou and the Mirassou brand was icing on the cake! I’d like to thank The SITS Girls and Mirassou Wineries for hosting this event. It is definitely safe to say I am looking forward to many more blog conferences with The SITS Girls and many more evenings with a bottle of Mirassou wine. In the meantime, stay tuned. I’ll be sharing more of what I learned about blogging and wine soon!
